Enjoy some endless family-friendly fun when you come visit North Myrtle Beach. From swimming to golf, you will find countless ways to enjoy your fall vacation. One of the most popular activities around here happens to be fishing. And of course, while staying in one of our Beachcomber vacation rentals, you will be close to 2 different fishing piers. We know that some of the most relaxing fishing can be done on one of the local piers. Below are our picks for the North Myrtle Beach fishing piers.
Cherry Grove Pier
Cherry Grove Pier is a wonderful pier to start fishing at if you have never done so before. Many visitors come to the quaint town of Cherry Grove, SC and was built in the 1950’s. This pier has been family owned since 1965 and many have considered this as an iconic landmark. If you are coming to try out fishing but don’t have any fishing gear, have no fear. Cherry Grove Pier will allow you to rent fishing rods and you can get your fishing license here too. It costs $24 all day to rent a rod with a $30 deposit on it. It will cost you $16 for after 3 pm. And if you don’t feel the need to fish, you can walk the pier for $3. If you bring your own rod then it will be $3 for admission and $7.50 for each rod. They also carry fishing bait and a full line tackle shop as well.
14th Avenue Pier
The 14th Avenue Pier has been around since the 1920’s. It is known to many locals as the historic pier and has the famous Pier 14 restaurant there. The restaurant has been known to many visitors as one of the best restaurants in Myrtle Beach. You can come and rent fishing poles again where it costs $8 plus a $20 refundable deposit. If you are looking to fish with your own gear, then it costs $7 for the fishing pass and $2 for an additional pole. Please note that they do have a pole limit per person so you can only use 2 poles per person. 14th Avenue Pier also has bait in their shop so you are able to grab squid, shrimp, mullet and finger mullet for your fishing trip. They are open from 7 am to 11 pm so don’t miss out on the fun!
While there are other fishing piers that you can visit in the Myrtle Beach area, we just thought these two were a good option for you. And if fishing off a pier is just not for you, there are other fishing adventures you can do while in North Myrtle Beach. If you want to still fish but not sure what to do, how about try out a Deep-Sea fishing experience. You will be able to catch more fish and just the experience itself is a perfect family outing. And if you are still searching for an oceanfront vacation rental, we have several for you to choose from this fall. We hope to see you this fall while the weather is turning a bit cooler but you can still enjoy the sunshine and beach.

When it comes to hurricanes it’s wise to educate yourself and be prepared. With social media being in front of most people these days it’s easy to get the wrong information. Hurricane season along the Eastern Coast of the U.S. lasts from June 1 through November 30.
Those of us that operate Beachcomber Vacations live here all year round. We’re not new to the area or to hurricanes and other storms. We are experienced with, and respectful of, hurricanes and know the proper steps to take. You’ll find most local people will generously share that information with you.
It’s important to be able to trust your source when it comes to important subjects like hurricanes. Following is information we deem worthy. Please do not rely solely on social media.
You will know days or weeks in advance when a hurricane is coming so you’ll have plenty of time to get out of the way.
Don’t panic. A hurricane travels very slowly and can take weeks to get to where you’re standing.
Expect the airports to have limited flight availability if they’re open at all when an impending hurricane is due to reach land.
Before the storm is close be sure to stock up on bottled water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries and other essential items you may need for 1-2 weeks.
If you’re vacationing during hurricane season whether it is with the airline, car rental agency or vacation accommodation agency travel insurance is a good idea.
While not as hazardous, tropical storms can develop into hurricanes rather quickly, limiting the time available for a safe evacuation.
Vacationers should stay in close contact with their tour operator, hotel staff, and local weather stations for updates and evacuation instructions in the event of a weather emergency.
You will be notified ahead of time of the emergency shelters where you can go for shelter if an evacuation order is executed.

Did you know that Myrtle Beach SC is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the southeastern United States? While most people are attracted to the seemingly endless beaches, it is the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk with its breathtaking SkyWheel that completes the experience for vacationing families visiting the coast.
Located in South Carolina, Myrtle Beach attracts more than 14 million visitors each year. With a tropical climate, the coastline around Myrtle Beach is perfect for tourism. Known as the Grand Strand, there are more than 60 miles of beach, which allows visitors plenty of room for sunbathing, water sports, deep sea fishing and so much more.
While the beach itself is noteworthy, Myrtle Beach is gaining new acclaim with its boardwalk. The first boardwalk was built in the 1930s. Because this original boardwalk was only made of wood, it was soon upgraded to concrete. Plans to expand the boardwalk were derailed by World War II, and the structure was destroyed by a hurricane in 1954. It was not until 1999 that fresh renovation plans were drawn up, and the new boardwalk was completed in 2010.
Although this boardwalk is relatively new, it is already regarded as one of the best. The boardwalk is 1.2 miles long, running along the coast with easy access to shopping and dining. There are numerous weekly attractions at the boardwalk, including festivals, concerts and more. The shining star of the boardwalk, though, is the SkyWheel, a 187-foot tall Ferris wheel. When it opened on May 2011 it was the second-tallest extant Ferris wheel in North America.
The boardwalk is also home to the Pavilion, which is a family-oriented amusement park. The Pavilion was originally opened in 1948, allowing pay-per-ride fun for visitors. Although the original site closed, it has been relocated to the boardwalk. For more recreation options, Family Kingdom is located not far away. Family Kingdom is a seaside amusement park with 40 years of history. This amusement park has more than 40 rides for the whole family to enjoy while staying with Beachcomber Vacation Rentals in Myrtle Beach.
Although modern travelers will find everything they want at Myrtle Beach, the area has a long history of popularity. In fact, Myrtle Beach's popularity made it the starting place of a dance revolution in the 1940s. With the vibrant atmosphere on the boardwalk in this time, shag dancing was invented at Myrtle Beach. Known widely today as the Carolina Shag, this dance is now recognized in professional dance competitions across the country.
